Claims administrators

“Sedgwick is handling my claim. Who are they?”

Sedgwick runs workers’ comp claims for employers and insurers. How to reach your examiner, which medical network may apply, and what to do if nobody answers.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Sedgwick is a claims administrator: your employer or its insurer hired it to run the claim, and they pay the benefits. The examiner’s name, telephone number and mailing address must be on every benefit notice you receive. Sedgwick’s own website points claimants to its online portal and chat, not to a published claims telephone number.

On this page

If your workers’ comp letters come from Sedgwick, your employer or its insurance company has hired Sedgwick to run the claim. Here is what that means, how to reach the person handling it, which medical network may apply, and what to do when nobody answers.

Who Sedgwick is

A claims administration company. Sedgwick’s website describes its business as claims administration, benefits administration, loss adjusting and product recall.

It is on the state’s list. The Office of Self-Insurance Plans publishes a list of third-party administrators. Its list dated July 31, 2026 includes Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Inc., with California locations including Glendale, Pasadena, Long Beach, Orange, Riverside and San Diego. A company that administers or adjusts self-insured employers’ claims must hold a Certificate to Administer, with listed exceptions.

What that means for your claim

Sedgwick runs the claim. It does not fund it. The state’s audit regulations define a third-party administrator as an agent under contract to administer the claims of an insurer, a self-insured employer, a legally uninsured employer or a self-insured joint powers authority. The benefits are paid with the money of whoever hired it.

The examiner works for the payer, not for you. Their job is to administer the claim for the employer or insurer that pays it. Every benefit notice must tell you that you have a right to disagree with decisions affecting your claim and a right to be represented by an attorney of your choice.

Your benefits do not change. Every benefit and every deadline in the Labor Code applies the same way whoever administers the claim. Who is handling my claim?

How to reach your adjuster

Start with the notice. Every benefit notice must show the claims administratorClaims administrator / adjuster The person handling your claim for the insurer or self-insured employer.’s name, mailing address and telephone number, your claim number, and “the name and telephone number and mailing address of the individual claims examiner responsible for the payment and adjusting of the claim” (8 CCR § 9810(c)(1)). That examiner is the person to write to.

Put the claim number on everything. It is Sedgwick’s number for your claim. It is not the ADJ numberADJ number Your case number at the Appeals Board. the Appeals Board assigns once a case is filed. Look up your case

Sedgwick’s own channels. Its Help with my claim page sends claimants in the United States and Canada to OmniClaims (mySedgwick) at mysedgwick.com, which it says shows claim status and payment history and lets you communicate securely with your claims team, and to an online chat that it says can direct you to your claims team at any hour. It says the adjuster assigned to you will be your primary contact.

No general claims number is published there. As of October 5, 2026, that page lists no claims telephone number. Use the examiner’s number on your notice.

Which medical network applies

DWCDWC Division of Workers’ Compensation, part of the Department of Industrial Relations. Administers the system. Information Services Center: 1-800-736-7401.’s list names two Sedgwick networks. DWC’s list of active Medical Provider Networks, as of July 8, 2026, shows Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Inc. as the applicant for the Sedgwick Standard Medical Provider NetworkMPN Medical Provider Network. Your employer’s list of physicians. After the first visit you may switch within it without permission. (MPN ID 2480) and the Sedgwick Extended Medical Provider Network (MPN ID 2479). Many other networks on the list carry Sedgwick’s name in their titles but name a different company as the applicant.

That does not tell you which network is yours. An insurer, an employer, or a company that provides physician networks may set up an MPN. Yours is the one your employer or its insurer uses, and it may be neither of these.

Your MPN notice tells you. When an injury covered by an MPN is reported, the employer or its insurer must give you a complete written MPN notification, in Spanish as well if you primarily speak Spanish. It must include the MPN’s identification number, toll-free telephone access to the MPN contact, and the MPN website. If you never received one, ask for it in writing. How the MPN works

When nobody answers

Write, and keep a copy. A dated request with your claim number and a date for a response is what every remedy depends on. My adjuster won’t call me back

Late checks carry an automatic 10%, paid “without application,” with narrow exceptions. Unreasonable delay is increased up to 25 percent or up to $10,000, whichever is less with a two-year deadline from the date the payment was due. Late payments and penalties

Free state help. Every DWC district office has an Information & Assistance officer. The DWC Information Services Center is (800) 736-7401.
