Before you go
Security — the strictest in the system. Metal detectors and x-ray screening at entry. Allow extra time, especially on conference-heavy mornings when the line backs into the lobby.
Parking. Street parking downtown is limited and actively enforced. Paid lots run $5 to $14 a day; the lot adjacent to the building is about $13. Budget for a full day — a conference can run long, and a citation while you are on the ninth floor is a genuinely bad outcome.
Transit — one of the best-served WCABWCAB Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board. The court system that decides these cases. 23 district offices statewide. offices in the region. Metro B/D Line (Red/Purple) to Pershing Square, then the 4th Street stairwell. For most people this is easier and cheaper than driving.
And a rule that catches people: no food, gum, or drink other than bottled water on the 9th floor.

The dates that decide a case here
Most cases heard at this office end at the mandatory settlement conference, and here it is held by video. Once either side files a Declaration of Readiness to ProceedDOR Declaration of Readiness to Proceed. Forces the calendar. You have 10 calendar days to object, or objections to proceeding on its issues are waived., these are the days that follow.
- Day 0
- A Declaration of Readiness to Proceed is filed: either side says the case is ready.
- Within 10 days of service
- The time to object. A party who does not object is deemed to have waived any and all objections to proceeding on the issues in the declaration, absent extraordinary circumstances.
- Days 10 to 30

Before a hearing here, what we do
Whatever is not on the exhibit list at the settlement conference does not come in at trial. So the work happens before it.
