This is the most searched question in California workers’ compensation and the one most often answered with a made-up number. This tool will not give you a single figure, and the reason why is the most useful thing on the page.

Read this before you use it. A workers’ compensation case has a part that can be calculated from a statute and a part that cannot be calculated by anybody. The calculable part is below. The part that cannot be calculated — future medical care — is frequently the largest single number in a settlement. Any site that hands you one total has either left it out or invented it.

Date of injury For cumulative trauma, roughly when it started. Permanent disability rating, if you have one The final percentage from a rating string or a doctor’s report. Leave blank if you do not have it yet. Average weekly earnings before the injury Gross, before tax. Leave blank and we assume the statutory maximum. Weeks of temporary disability already paid Optional. This is money you have already had, not settlement value — but knowing it matters. Did your employer make a qualifying return-to-work offer? Was anyone other than your employer involved? Another driver, a property owner, a general contractor, an equipment maker, a dog owner.
